Capturing the oil from storm water is a difficult and expensive process.
The use of MyCelx Smart Pads has enabled tracking of the locations of oil entering storm water systems.
The MyCelx Smartpads are inserted into storm water pits and manholes, inertly waiting for any sign of oil in the storm water.
The MyCelx Smartpads permanently capture oil and show spotting and discolouration upon contact with oil contaminants. The visible discolouration is very obvious and may be tracked upstream along the storm water pipes enabling pin pointing of the pit at which the entry occurred.
Management practices and processes at the location of the water entering the pit are then able to be refined and enacted, eliminating contaminated water, prior to the water flowing downstream and aggregating with other storm water branches into larger flows where it becomes more difficult and expensive to treat.
